obaseki: We will go on pursuing peace, even in the face of provocation

The governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, says his administration remains committed to ensuring peace in the state despite the atmosphere that is politically charged.

He stated this on Tuesday as he visited Ekperi Kingdom’s Egiegbai II, His Royal Highness Deke Kanoba, in the state’s Central Local Government Area of Etsako.

Governor Obaseki has been in the traditional ruler ‘s palace to receive blessings and help from the king until the September 19, 2020 governorship election.

“I will continue to do everything within my abilities to insure that our dear State is stable, particularly in the face of opposition provocation.

“In a State where there is no peace, no business can thrive. As a country, we are determined to pursue any possible means for our economy to expand, “he told his host.

The governor continued, “I recognize that without constant energy, there is also no position or company which can boom. For our businesses we need electricity such as fish farm which is a major source of income for Ekperi people.

“Construction of roads and other infrastructures for our citizens is in our interest. We were having some challenges with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) management.

The State government is very concerned about providing the people with a constant supply of electricity, according to Governor Obaseki.

The State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, and other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) accompanied him to the palace.

Ekperi Kingdom’s Egiegbai II stated in his remarks that his palace is not involved in party politics, stressing his belief in good governance.

He also called for peaceful political-party rallies, and urged security agencies to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

The traditional ruler pleaded explicitly with Governor Obaseki to look into BEDC ‘s activities in his region.

But he thanked the governor for constructing the roads in the communities of Ogbago and Osomhegbe.
